Culverts & Ditching: Driveway Drainage That Works

Fix drainage at the source.

If your driveway floods, washes out, or stays soft, water isn’t moving where it should. Precision Land Services installs and replaces driveway culverts, reshapes ditches/swales, and corrects grades and low spots so water drains away from your drive and buildings.

What We Do

  • Culvert Installation & Replacement — size, bed, set, and backfill with proper cover
  • Ditch/Shallow Swale Shaping — establish flow line and slopes to move water
  • Grade Corrections — add/subtract material to eliminate low spots
  • Apron Repairs & Tie-Ins — smooth transitions where the drive meets the road
  • Stone & Material Placement — base/top material to stabilize problem areas

Materials: We typically use HDPE or CMP culvert pipe, depending on local standards, load rating, and site conditions. We’ll recommend the right size and material during the estimate.

Our Process

  • Site Visit & Grade Check — shoot grades/visual check to confirm flow path, measure cover and obstructions
  • Sizing & Plan — choose pipe diameter/material; plan ditch shape and driveway tie-ins
  • Excavation & Bedding — set a stable bed and correct slope for the culvert
  • Set, Backfill & Compact — proper cover and compaction to support traffic loads
  • Shape Ditches/Swales — cut/fill to establish positive flow to the outlet
  • Final Stone & Roll — place/compact base and surface material for a clean finish

Problems We Solve

  • Ponding at the driveway or along the shoulder
  • Washouts after storms, especially near the road edge
  • Undersized or failed culverts that plug or collapse
  • Low spots/soft areas that keep rutting
  • Erosion along ditches and at driveway aprons

When to Consider a New Culvert

  • The existing pipe is crushed, rusted through, or chronically plugged
  • You’ve raised/lowered the drive and lost proper cover
  • Storm intensity or upstream changes mean the old pipe is now undersized

Coordination & Permits

Driveway culverts are often subject to town/county specs—we’ll advise what’s typical for your road and coordinate as needed. If additional approvals apply (e.g., near waterways/wetlands), we’ll flag that in the estimate and help you navigate options.

Pair This With a Lasting Driveway Fix

Most drainage failures show up as ruts, potholes, or soft spots. After the culvert/ditch work, we can regrade and crown the driveway and add/compact the right aggregate so water sheds off the wheel tracks instead of running down them.

FAQs

Many culvert swaps are ½–1 day once scheduled; larger pipes/long runs may take longer.

It depends on the watershed, road authority standards, and outlet conditions. We size it during the site visit and confirm with local specs.
